If you work in a heavy-duty industry (e.g., mining, oil and gas, chemicals, meat, poultry, and wastewater treatment), safety and reliability are likely to be top priorities.
The safe and reliable operation of double diaphragm pumps makes them an excellent choice for the most demanding applications. This is because these double diaphragm pumps offer advantages that are often unmatched by other pump technologies.
- No electricity required: AODD pumps run on compressed air or natural gas, allowing them to be used in a wide variety of applications.
- They are portable: the pumps can be mounted on trolleys or hand trucks and are easy to transport.
- Solids pumping capability: Pumps equipped with check valves can easily pass line-sized solids.
- Fully grounded: If the pump is ATEX certified, it can be fully grounded using the included belt.
- Can run dry: AODD pumps can run dry without damaging vital components.
- They can handle the load safely: AODD pumps do not generate heat and do not require an overflow valve when the discharge nozzle is closed.
When choosing an AODD pump for heavy-duty applications, you may be wondering, ” Will an AODD swing valve pump designed for heavy duty work for my system, or do I need a heavy-duty ball valve pump?”
AODD pumps with powerful flap valves
Heavy-duty vane valve pumps are the ideal solution for abrasives, non-suspended solids and line sizes.
These solids transfer pumps are used in markets such as the meat and poultry trade due to their unique ability to pass large solids that would normally clog other pumps.
In fact, SANDPIPER’s heavy-duty suction valve pump is known as a “blood pump” because it can easily move solid particles that enter the blood collection areas.
Compared to AODD ball pumps and other rotary pumps, heavy-duty lobe valve pumps are optimized for efficiency and productivity.
- Highest throughput (1″, 2″ and 3″ pumps available)
- Lowest airflow in its class
- Performance is not compromised by wear and tear on the pump.
- Small flow rate changes for improved handling of thick and viscous liquids.
Suitable for working with materials of solid linear size.
- The large flow area allows solids of linear dimensions to pass directly through the pump.
- The bottom-release design helps prevent solids from accumulating in the unit.
- Eliminates common problems associated with ball valve pumps, where large solids are trapped in the suction manifold and small solids settle in the outer casing, affecting performance.
Quick access to serviceable components
- Removable Cleaning Caps: By unscrewing the six screws holding the cleaning cap, you can access and clean small blockages without disassembling the entire pump.
- Standard Check Valve Access: By removing the cover for cleaning, you can inspect and/or replace the flip valves if necessary. Four screws hold the standard flip valves in place for quick service and repair.
- ESADS+Plus: Our ESADS+Plus (Externally Serviced Air Distribution System) system allows you to service and/or repair pilot and air valve components without taking the pump out of service.
Heavy-duty ball valves for AODD pumps
For fluids containing aggregated, suspended solids and floating solids, rely on the performance, reliability and unique characteristics of high-power ball pumps. These double diaphragm pumps are ideal for pumping liquids from liquid to highly viscous liquids containing fine solids. They provide excellent suction height and unique flow control capabilities. such as paint industry, aerospace, construction and chemical industry, plumbing, transportation, and more.
Heavy-duty ball valve pumps are equipped with thick-walled housings and manifolds made of aluminum, cast iron or stainless steel. The combination of chemically compatible elastomers creates a reliable pump designed for the most aggressive operating conditions.
Multiple Transfer Locations
- Top Outlet: For liquids containing floating and suspended particles, as well as gas bubbles. The outlet is located above the center of the pump to facilitate pumping and prevent the accumulation of solids and gases.
- Bottom of the pump: For liquids containing sediment. The outlet is located below the center of the pump to allow the sediment to settle in the elbow and can be easily discharged. This helps to reduce wear and tear on diaphragms and related components.
- Side Outlet: For use in tight spaces. The outlet ports are located in the center of the pump, allowing it to be installed in small, confined spaces.
Parts Subject to Heavy Duty Wear
- Heavy-duty piston liners and drive pins are designed for heavy-duty applications that require reliable starting and stopping.
- Wear-resistant pads are installed between the diaphragm and the outer plate of the diaphragm, creating a secondary wear surface that extends the life of the diaphragm. This is useful when working with abrasive fluids.
- Thicker and stronger wet moulds provide greater wear resistance.
- Heavy-duty check valve balls are 30 to 60 percent heavier than solid rubber balls, making it easier to fill the chamber when pumping more viscous products.
AODD pumps for the toughest applications
Even in the harshest operating and environmental conditions, the SANDPIPER Signature AODD Series pumps (Rugged Pumps, Rugged Ball Pumps and Limit Pumps) are designed to deliver industry-leading durability and performance.
SANDPIPER’s exclusive External Distributor Service System (ESADS+) provides full access to the main and control air valves without taking the pump out of service. Many heavy-duty pumps also feature durable configurations that include a variety of bearing options, robust piston/pin liners, wear-resistant diaphragm linings, thicker wetted dies and heavier check valve balls.
Our unique designs prevent leaks, allow pumps to be configured in a variety of ways, make maintenance quick and easy, and are durable and withstand high pressures thanks to their fully threaded design.
